Modeling alliance activity: Opportunity cost eVects and manipulations in an iterated prisoner’s dilemma with exit option

We model the two-Wrm alliance as an iterated prisoners’ dilemma game with an exit option and test several theoretical predictions over two experimental studies. A new major eVect on alliance performance arises by including the exit option (i.e., the option to end the alliance and receive a Wxed payoV that is less than the payoV for mutual cooperation but greater than the payoV for mutual defect...

Using an Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma with Exit Option to Study Alliance Behavior: Results of a Tournament and Simulation

Nearly half of all strategic alliances fail (Park and Russo, 1996; Dyer et al., 2001), often because of opportunistic behavior by one party or the other. We use a tournament and simulation to study strategies in an iterated prisoner’s dilemma game with exit option to shed light on how a firm should react to an opportunistic partner. Our results indicate that a firm should give an alliance partn...

Effects of increasing the number of players and memory size in the iterated

The Prisoner’s Dilemma has become a paradigm for the evolution of altruistic behaviour. Here we present results of numerical simulations of the infinitely iterated stochastic simultaneous Prisoner’s Dilemma considering players with longer memory, encounters of more than two players as well as different payoff values. This provides us with a better foundation to compare theoretical results to ex...

A Large Scale, Distributed, Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma Simulation

The Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma (IPD) is a classic construct, used to explain the nature of cooperative/noncooperative behavior in society. One way to simulate the iterated prisoner’s dilemma is with a genetic algorithm to evolve the population of prisoner’s dilemma players to their maximum potential. However, the limitations of computational power are a large factor in the ability to run very ...

Rejoinder to Kritikos and Bolle: making indenture viable — the extortionary power of pre-commitment in iterated prisoner’s dilemma

Kritikos and Bolle’s approach is still flawed, but a viable indenture game can still readily be structured within the context of iterated prisoner’s dilemma. © 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. JEL classification: C70
